about

Christopher Sean Powell (Man Man/Need New Body) and Data Garden invite you aboard the Spaceship Aloha.

Universe Mahalo: Vol #1 presents a prismatic soundscape, first imagined while driving a 1987 Toyota Camry - complete with FM radio! - around the rainbow-filled island of Maui. Beat-maker Christopher Sean Powell first visited Hawaii in 2011, where he and his wife were married by a mystic in the rainforest on the Road to Hana. Maui’s radio stations were serving up a veritable plate lunch of Hawaiian music, and Powell could not get enough. Arriving home in Philadelphia, he hit the tarmac only to bounce back into the outer limits of Polynesian-infused beats. With the help of his Akai MPC 1000, Powell crafted an audio journey filled with delicious rhythm specialties and sonic celestial cocktails. Spaceship Aloha travels the vast reaches of sound, space, and time through addictive rhythms and fugitive melodies. A welcoming introduction to Powell’s new body of work, Universe Mahalo: Vol #1 beacons from a joyous electronic musical future. Welcome aboard!

about

Data Garden redefines traditional music distribution. Digital files are easily lost by the impermanence of computing. Physical objects like CDs, tapes and records last far beyond their usability and possibly even our existence as a species. We mitigate these challenges by releasing digital album codes on artwork that can grow into living plants. ... more
